The creator of the award-winning webcomic series Let's Play has a new series up her sleeve, which will premiere exclusively on Manta Comics.
Announced at New York Comic Con, Manta Comics revealed that Leeanne M. Krecic, the creative mind behind the critically acclaimed webcomic Let's Play, has joined Manta Comics with a new series called Dragon King Oath. The 100-episode original series will premiere in late 2024 and only on Manta Comics. The onboarding of Krecic to the service makes her the first major creator to join from another platform. Krecic previously published on WEBTOON.
Dragon King Oath is set in a world where an oath binds kings and dragons to share the land in peace. This oath demands that the king send one of his royal daughters to the dragon in exchange for the creature's protection from any threats and vow to not harm the king nor his people. Breaking such an oath would call for a curse on both sides. The story follows Princess Lisette Wylgerent, who is pledged to a dragon named Raith. As she settles into her new home in the dragon world, she discovers secrets about the true nature of the dragons' and humans' relationship that may change the course of history for both races.
Krecic described Manta Comics as "more than just a digital comics platform." She explained, "I've found a committed team [at Manta] that listens, collaborates, and celebrates shared goals. As we forge ahead, I'm reminded of the ever-supportive community that has enjoyed my work and celebrated each milestone with me. I'm eager for everyone to see what's next."
Sungho Lee, the Head of Business Development for the U.S. and Europe at Manta, was especially excited about the collaboration. "When the opportunity arose to partner with Leeanne on her latest endeavor, it was an unequivocal and resounding 'yes,'" he said. "Leeanne has cultivated an extraordinary fan base, a community eagerly anticipating her next creation, and we are confident they will be enraptured by what she is crafting."
Let's Play garnered more than 7.5 million subscribers since it began publication in November 2017. The series has earned an Eisner nomination for Best Webcomic, won a Ringo Award and is notably the top best-selling graphic novel on Amazon. Krecic, a self-taught artist known to her fans as "Mongie," has since announced that she would not return with Season 4 at WEBTOON, as she felt the platform did not value her work nor her as a creator.
Fans can read Dragon King Oath exclusively on Manta Comics in late 2024.
