Writer Neil Kleid and artist John Broglia, the creators of Savor, have teamed up for Nice Jewish Boys, a Comixology original.

The first issue of the five part miniseries releases on Nov. 7 and begins the story of a modern day Jewish crime drama set in suburban New Jersey. Nice Jewish Boys is inspired by a real-life crime and features Jake Levin, a Modern Orthodox Jew, who is struggling to pay his bills and gets drawn into a triangle of secrets when he moonlights for his best friend -- a kosher "caterer-turned-criminal" -- who is wanted by the FBI thanks to their other friend -- a "failed entrepreneur-turned-informant." Kleid and Broglia are joined by colorist Ellie Wright and editor Sarah Litt for the series. Check out CBR's first look at the debut issue's cover and its opening pages.

Nice Jewish Boys Showcases Author's Fears

Kleid previously released a dark psychological thriller with Comixology called The Panic in 2022 and has worked on major titles with Marvel and DC including X-Men and Superman over the years. He spoke about the inspiration behind Nice Jewish Boys and how the story expresses his own fears about what he describes as his community's unwillingness to change. "Nice Jewish Boys is about a Modern Orthodox Jewish community and communities like it — somewhat insular, judgmental and pious, maybe a tad hypocritical to the point of criminal, and like all good stories, it's about the author," Kleid revealed.

The writer continued, "It's about my fears and anxieties and what it might be like to succumb to frustration with a beloved system that can also be restrictive and expensive...and, in many cases, unjust and unfair to certain people who love what it offers in terms of faith, community and an elusive connection to something far greater than ourselves if only it would put aside the entitlement, judgment, and unwillingness to change.," He further elaborated, "As you read Nice Jewish Boys, there will be moments where truth may peek through the fiction. It's my hope that those are the bits—amid the crime, anguish, guilt, and betrayals—which speak loudest and longest. And in the end, I hope you love this work of fiction as much as I do.”

Nice Jewish Boys will be released on Nov. 7 by Comixology.
