Marvel Cinematic Universe vet Tom Hiddleston opened up about Loki’s new purpose in Season 2, as the God of Mischief finds a new family in the Time Variance Authority.

When Loki was first introduced in the MCU, his goals have always been centered around his egotistical desires. That’s why fans are so used to seeing him betray the people around him, most especially his brother Thor. However, Loki Season 2 promised to show fans a new side to the God of Mischief, as he finds himself unexpectedly stepping into a more heroic position. Speaking with Marvel.com, Hiddleston discussed Loki’s story arc for the latest season of the hit Disney+ series, revealing that his actions are no longer tied to his selfish reasons. He explained that Loki is currently motivated and determined to save reality and the TVA because of the people he now considers as family.

"Loki always struggled with family in the MCU, but he’s found a new family in the TVA," Hiddleston said. "In the breakdown of understanding himself and having his sense of self opened up, broken down, and rebuilt by Mobius and his colleagues at the TVA, there’s a new awareness and a capacity to connect with other people."

The Golden Globe winner also pointed out the interesting difference between Loki’s Season 2 arc and the first installment. "He’s a character who, as long as I’ve played him, has been searching for meaning," Hiddleston continued. "If Season 1 was about self-awareness and self-acceptance, Season 2 is about taking responsibility and trying to find a new purpose. Maybe there’s more burden and less glory in the purpose this time."

What to Expect in Loki Season 2?

Loki Season 2 will feature Hiddleston in another time-hopping adventure, as he faces the dire consequences of Sylvie’s actions during the Season 1 finale, where she decided to kill off He Who Remains. Joining Hiddleston are returning cast members Owen Wilson as Mobius, Sophia Di Martino as Sylvie, Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Ravonna Renslayer, Wunmi Mosaku as Hunter B-15, and Tara Strong as the voice of Miss Minutes, along with Jonathan Majors as Victor Timely. Executive producer Kevin Wright confirmed that Majors’ major role in Season 2 wasn’t affected by the actor’s ongoing legal troubles since he had already completed filming his scenes prior to the controversy.

In addition, the second installment will also introduce a few MCU newcomers including Blindspotting’s Rafael Casal as Hunter X-5, Game of Thrones alum Kate Dickie as General Dox, Good Omens’ Liz Carr as Judge Gambie, and Oscar winner Ke Huy Quan as Ouroboros or O.B. The latter is described as a quirky TVA agent who works at the Repairs and Advancement Department.

Wright praised Quan’s performance as "very organic and natural," making O.B. a seamless addition to the dynamic between Loki and Mobius. "I could see it being quite intimidating coming in and trying to find your spot between Tom and Owen, who just formed this amazing bond and partnership," Wright said. "[Ke] just effortlessly came in and added this new element that felt like it should have been there from the start."

The first two episodes of Loki Season 2 are now available on Disney+.
