A new update is now available for Resident Evil 2, the 2019 remake of the classic survival horror game.

Capcom released a new update for Resident Evil 2 across all gaming platforms. The new update adds Latin American Spanish as a display language. However, Capcom didn't go into specifics on what bugs or glitches were resolved in the latest update.

The remake update comes after four years of the original game's release on Jan. 25, 2019. According to Capcom's latest numbers, the Resident Evil 2 remake set a new record as the best-selling game in the horror franchise. The game achieved 12.6 million cumulative lifetime sales across consoles and PC platforms, a historical high in the series' 27-year existence. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard previously held the best-selling record in the Resident Evil franchise with 12.4 million copies, six years after its release on Jan. 24, 2017.

After returning the Resident Evil series to its horror roots with Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, Capcom remade its 1998 PlayStation game, Resident Evil 2, for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. Critics praised the 2019 remake for going above and beyond the original release. The critical and commercial success of the remake paved the way for the 2020 Resident Evil 3 reboot and the 2021 release of Resident Evil Village, the series' eighth installment. A free next-gen upgrade of all three games was made available for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

The Resident Evil 4 remake is the latest release in the franchise. Just like the previous remakes, Resident Evil 4 earned rave reviews for successfully updating the 2005 Nintendo GameCube game for modern audiences. The 2023 edition not only preserved the game's adrenaline action but also added more horror elements to keep it in line with the series. Capcom is also enjoying success in the competitive fighting scene with Street Fighter 6, while also dipping its toes in the live-service hero shooter genre with Exoprimal.

Resident Evil 2 is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC.
