Lindsey Anderson Beer is no longer part of the team working on Star Trek 4.

Speaking to ComicBook, Anderson Beer confirmed that she is no longer involved with Star Trek 4, adding that the script was based on an idea from J. J. Abrams. "I wrote a couple drafts of that before I had to leave for Pet Sematary," she explained. And it was originally, the seed of the idea came from J.J. himself, who's such a creatively generous person, and it was amazing collaborating with him. And it was very sad to leave our Zoom sessions to focus on [Pet Sematary: Bloodlines], but this was my baby, so I had to prioritize," she added about her directorial debut.

Since the debut of Star Trek: Beyond in 2016, various individuals have been associated with Star Trek 4, including SJ Clarkson and Matt Shakman. Most recently, Anderson Beer and Geneva Robertson-Dworet were the attached writers working on a script for Shakman's direction. However, Shakman left the project to work on Fantastic Four within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The announcement of a new director is still pending.

Hope for Star Trek 4 Amid Development Challenges

Despite her exit, Anderson Beer has expressed her passion for Star Trek 4, which has faced prolonged development challenges. The writer recently assured fans that the movie will be made when all the key players can dedicate their time to the film. "It's still on the tracks," Anderson said. "I love that project, and it was another one that I had to hop off of to direct this movie, and that was a hard thing to do. But I love that everybody involved with that project."

While the plot of Star Trek 4 has not been revealed, the core cast from the Kelvin timeline, including actors like Chris Pine as Captain Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Spock, Zoe Saldana as Uhura, Karl Urban as Dr. McCoy, John Cho as Sulu, and Simon Pegg as Scotty, are expected to their respective roles. However, after Paramount removed the movie from its release schedule in September 2022, not all stars are sure about its future.

Quinto recently explained why he believes another Kelvin movie has yet to be produced. "The fact that anything good gets made is kind of a miracle," the actor said during a Q&A session at the 57-Year Mission convention in Las Vegas. "I think it's about different people having different agendas and ideas about what it will be. And I don't know if and when it will happen. And if it coalesces again, and we come back, and we're able to do it, wonderful. If not, we had a great run."
