Rumors had been circulating among fans that the game’s DLC characters would be shown off at NYCC. And, many believed that Omni-Man would be getting his own trailer. However, Ed Boon dashed fans' hopes and confirmed on X (formerly Twitter) that Omni-Man wouldn’t have an NYCC trailer.

Mortal Kombat 1 Characters

While it’s unclear what gamers will see from Mortal Kombat 1 at New York Comic Con, Boon has teased that something will be at the show. Another post on X highlighted a set of horror movie characters, implying that one of them might be entering the game through a future Kombat Pack. The series has dabbled in horror characters in the past, including Jason Voorhees, Freddie Krueger, Michael Myers, and more.

After the DLC reveal, fans wondered if Omni-Man and Homelander would “play the same” as they were both “copies” of Superman within other properties. Boon quickly squashed that rumor by noting how NetherRealm Studios would ensure that both of them played differently, especially since the two have different powers in certain respects and have different fighting styles. Omni-Man is a trained soldier who has thousands of years of experience, whereas Homelander has been the “top hero” from Vought International for decades and hasn’t had a real challenge in quite some time.

As for the main game, the title focuses on Liu Kang and how he has rewritten the timeline and destiny itself so that a new world could be born. He changed the fates and relationships of many characters to give them a chance at peace and see if Earthrealm could finally be free of the constant wars that plagued it. However, despite his best efforts, cracks have formed in his new reality and teased a dangerous new timeline to come. Gamers will play as many classic Kombatants while also enjoying some familiar faces from different eras.

Mortal Kombat 1 is available now on console and PC.
