Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has set a new standard for open-world fantasy games. By building upon Breath of the Wild’s additions to the franchise and innovating new features of its own, Tears of The Kingdom is well on its way to being Game of the Year.

To enjoy this milestone game in the Legend of Zelda franchise, players want to look and feel their best. Thankfully, Tears of the Kingdom has a vast wardrobe of powerful and fashionable armor sets for players to hunt down.

Updated on October 2, 2023, by Andrea Sandoval: Tears of the Kingdom has a fantastic variety of armor sets for Link. Some are callbacks to other Legend of Zelda games, while others are original TOTK outfits. We updated this link to include more useful and epic armor sets for players to wear in Tears of the Kingdom.

15 Hero of the Depths Set

Link wearing the Hero of the Depths armor set in Tears of the Kingdom

The Hero of the Depths Set is an armor that Link can find by buying it from the Bargainer's Statue using the Poes players can find in the Depths. The set is relatively easy to obtain, and it makes Link's journey across the Depths way easier since it protects him from Gloom damage.

However, a lot of players complain the Hero of the Depths armor doesn't protect Link against gloom attacks done by enemies, which makes it way less appealing. Still, the Depths are filled with gloom, and sometimes is inevitable for Link to walk through it, so this armor is a good acquisition to explore the subterranean space.

14 Evil Spirit Set

Link wearing the Evil Spirit set in Tears of the Kingdom

While the Evil Spirit set is one of the weakest armor sets in terms of defense, it has a couple of boosts that make it a very attractive set. First, each piece of the Evil Spirit Set grants the player a point of stealth, which is already very practical. The set also increases damage when Link uses a weapon that has been fused with a bone item.

In this sense, the Evil Spirit set will allow players to deliver some powerful attacks. Not only that, but the set will also grant a bonus that will make the player invisible to skeleton enemies. Evil Spirit is useful for players who know how to avoid attacks, making it easier to defeat enemies. However, with its 4-point defense per piece, it's not a great idea for players who don't know how to parry.

13 Twilight Set

Link wearing the Twilight set in Tears of the Kingdom

The Twilight armor set isn't one of the most powerful sets in Tears of the Kingdom, but it's a classic look that players love. The set reaches a total defense of +20 per piece, which makes it a comfortable option to combine both usability and fashion.

As its name suggests, the Twilight set is modeled after Link's outfit in Twilight Princess, which makes it an amazing call back to another excellent game in the franchise. However, those who want to add this amazing armor set to their collection will have to face King Gleeok in the Depths.

12 Phantom Set

Link wearing the Phantom set in Tears of the Kingdom

Composed of the Phantom Helmet, the Phantom Armor, and the Phantom Greaves, the Phantom Armor set is one of the best options for the beginning of Tears of the Kingdom. It has one of the highest base stats with 8 points of defense per armor piece plus an attack bonus.

Furthermore, the Phantom set is easy enough to find throughout the caves without the player having to spend a single penny. However, the only problem with this armor set is that it can't be upgraded, so it won't be as useful for players as they find much better armor sets throughout Tears of the Kingdom.

11 Ancient Hero's Aspect

Link wearing the Ancient Hero's Aspect in the inventory in Tears of the Kingdom

Even though the Ancient Hero's Aspect armor isn't technically a set, it is a full-body suit that has the same function as an armor set. The armor has an epic Zonaite look and a base defense of 21, and it can get to 84 by boosting it at the Great Fairy Fountains.

The downside of this armor is that it's a tad difficult to obtain since it requires players to find and complete every Shrine of Light in the game. The last Shrine of Light that the players complete will trigger the quest to obtain the Ancient Hero's Aspect. However, it is worth it for such great armor.

10 Barbarian Armor

Link wearing the Barbarian Set in Tears of the Kingdom

The Barbarian Armor is one of the earliest armor sets the player can get, and also happens to be one of the strongest. The armor doesn’t just make Link look badass; it gives him a nice boost to defense and attack. The perk for obtaining the entire set is that it decreases the stamina spent when charging attacks.

To acquire this set, take on the Misko’s Treasure quest. The Barbarian Helm is located in Robred Dropoff Cave, the Barbarian Armor in Crenel Hills Cave, and the Barbarian Legwraps are waiting snugly at Walnot Mountain Cave. The reliable bonus to defense and damage helps through the hardest dungeons in this Legend of Zelda game.

9 Fierce Deity Armor

Mechanically speaking, the Fierce Deity Armor is identical to the Barbarian Armor, but with one important distinction. The “bonus” in this case is that completing the Fierce Deity set gives the player access to the almighty Fierce Deity Sword. The Fierce Deity is one of the Legend of Zelda’s iconic heroes from its history.

The Fierce Deity Sword boasts a hefty 38 base attack with solid durability. Paired with the Fierce Deity’s mechanics, it’s a fantastic DPS set. To obtain this armor, there are two ways. They can either be found at different locations in Cephia Lake Cave, or with the Majora’s Mask Link amiibo. The only real downside is that this armor is slightly harder to upgrade than the Barbarian set.

8 Zora Armor

Link wearing the Zora Set in Tears of the Kingdom

The Zora Armor makes a return in Tears of the Kingdom, and with the overhauls to the swimming system, it’s become an even more valuable set to own. It increases swim speed while simultaneously reducing the stamina needed to dash within the water.

To nab the aquatic armor, find the Zora Helm in a cave on Floating Scales Island, Zora’s Armor as a quest boon from the Sidon of Zora Quest, and Zora Greaves from the “A Token of Friendship” quest.

7 Soldier’s Set

Link wearing the Soldier's Set in Tears of the Kingdom

The Soldier’s Set is one of the most “boring” armors at a glance. There are no perks or set bonuses from completing this armor set. However, it boasts the highest defense stat of any armor in the game, making Link a formidable force in battle.

The Soldier’s Set is a great option for players that prefer getting into the thick of things. To obtain this set, all three pieces are in the Emergency Shelter in Lookout Landing. It’s in one of the paths of the cave system, although players need to bring a rock-smashing weapon as there are many of them.

6 Climbing Set

Climbing remains one of the most fun innovations in this new era of Zelda games, and Tears of the Kingdom continues the tradition. The Climber’s Set is a must for anybody looking to traverse the mountainous landscape of Hyrule, as it increases climbing speed while decreasing stamina consumed during jumps while climbing.

To obtain the Climber’s set, there’s a lot of climbing involved as well. The Climber’s Bandana is within Ploymus Mountain Cave, the Climbing Gear inside North Hyrule Plain Cave, and the Climbing Boots within Upland Zorana Byroad.

5 Froggy Set

The Froggy Set is a scrappy-looking wetsuit and an alternative to the Climbing Set during rainy days. The Froggy Armor set provides the player with slip resistance, and, more importantly, prevents Link from slipping while climbing in the rain, one of the biggest pains from Breath of the Wild.

To obtain the Froggy Set, the player must complete the Potential Princess Sightings quest by locating all the stables in Hyrule. Traysi of the Lucky Clover Gazette is the quest giver for this one.

4 Glide Set

Gliding is one of the most fun ways to take a shortcut in the vast open world of Hyrule. To do this even better, one must find the Glide Set. This armor set provides wind resistance, making gliding even safer. The set bonus of the Glide Set is that it cancels out all fall damage, taking away that fear of heights.

Diving challenges for the Glide Mask, Glide Shirt, and Glide Tights are required to obtain them. They are respectively found on Valor Island, Courage Island, and Bravery Island.

3 Zonaite Armor

Link wearing the Zonaite Set in Tears of the Kingdom

The Zonaite Armor is one of the most sci-fi-looking sets in the game, with a fittingly sciencey bonus. The armor set improves energy efficiency when using Zonai Devices, and the set bonus makes Zonaite Energy recharge at twice the speed. Great for those that love the crafting aspect of Tears of the Kingdom.

The Zonaite Helm is located on Lightcast Island, within the Tabantha Frontier Sky Area. The Zonaithe Waistguard is right behind the Yansamin Shrine on East Necluda Sky. The last piece, the Zonaite Shin Guards, can be found near the Sky Mine in the Akkala Sky region.

2 Stealth Set

Link wearing the Stealth Set in Tears of the Kingdom

For longtime franchise fans, they may recognize the “stealth suit” as Sheik’s iconic garb from the Hero of Time timeline. As expected, the stealth set boosts stealth and movement speed at night. For players that love looking cool in tights, but paradoxically don’t want to be seen in them, this is the perfect outfit.

The set is found in Kakariko Village, and the player must complete the Gloom-borne Illness quest before it becomes available at the Enchanted Armor shop. The Stealth Mast is worth 500 Rupees, Stealth Chest Guard at 700 Rupees, and Stealth Tights at 600 Rupees. They're slightly pricey, but at least they don’t have to be hunted down.

1 Mystic Set

Link wearing the Mystic Set in Tears of the Kingdom

The Mystic Set is the most expensive armor set in the game, quite literally. It has decent stats, but the real reason for getting it is that it makes the player effectively immortal. Well, as long as they have Rupees, at least. Players wearing the Mystic Set only lose Rupees upon taking damage.

For players with money to burn, the Mystic Set is basically God Mode for a price. To obtain this financially draining gear, find Koltin’s Shop and pay 5 Bubbul Gems for the Mystic Headpiece, 3 Bubbul Gems for the Mystic Robe, and 4 Bubbul Gems for the Mystic Trousers. It’s important to note these armor pieces won’t show up until the player spends money on other items at Koltin’s Shop.
